Utazi (Gongronema latifolium), sometimes called bush buck leaf, is a bitter-tasting leafy herb widely used in Igbo cooking to spice soups and local delicacies. It's added in small, finely sliced amounts to dishes like Abacha (African salad), Nkwobi (spicy cow foot), Ugba (fermented oil bean seed salad), and Plantain porridge, as well as soups such as bitter leaf soup, where its sharp bitterness balances rich, fatty flavors. Utazi is used sparingly, as its bitterness is potent even in small amounts, and it's a key ingredient for anyone recreating authentic Igbo dishes. Sold dried in a 50g pack.

How to use: Slice thinly and add a small amount directly to soups or salads just before serving to preserve its sharp, fresh bitterness.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in an airtight container.
