Jute Leaves (Ewedu/Molokhia) - Draw Soup Vegetable - 100g
Jute leaves, also known as Ewedu in Yoruba or Molokhia in Arabic-influenced cooking, are used to prepare Ewedu soup, a tasty Nigerian draw soup known for its slimy, mucilaginous texture. Ewedu soup is often served alongside other soups like Gbegiri and stew, over a swallow such as Amala or rice, making a classic combination popular in Yoruba cuisine. The leaves have a mild, slightly bitter vegetable taste and are valued mainly for the smooth, drawing texture they bring to the finished soup.
How to use: Boil the leaves until soft, then blend or mash (traditionally with a broom whisk) until smooth and slimy, season, and combine with stew or other soups as desired.
Storage: Store frozen or in a cool, dry place depending on form; use promptly once thawed.
